     See the picture with a messy desk; that was me. I started with a laptop working for a remote GIS position in my room. I had one screen, headphones from 2010, and a cell phone to take a selfie photo shot of how I pursue my career in Geographic Information of Science (GIS). My opportunity to put my skills to the test starting from level 1.

      I grew my education from Humboldt State University to California State University (CSU) of Long Beach during my ten years. The resources to create into reality is no easy task, just as understanding all the details of computer hardware and what happens behind the scenes. Compared to the resources available was unimaginable between a workstation prepped to start on the first day vs. uploading your software and creating your own workstation. However, I feel everyone has been in these situations before, and it’s no fun without someone to ask for help. 

     The experience of learning something new never fades. As a graduate student pursuing a GIS career, it can take time and mental focus. It may not be for everyone to be in front of a screen all day, but I found ways to get GIS practices outside the office collecting field data. Especially to reduce my body weight in the long run because you sit a lot and get caught up working, for example, coding, cartography, typing, and more.

    GIS is a strong career, and it will be in demand for a long time. But like all careers, GIS is changing fast with new techniques every day. There are basically two types of GIS data we ought to know, Vector data and Raster data; 

    Vector Data – Vector data is the spatial data most people are familiar with, as it is the format presented in mapping portals such as Open Street Maps and Google Maps. It is also used extensively in computer graphics and computer-aided design (CAD). It consists of points, lines, and polygons.

    And Raster Data – Raster data, also known as grid data, is made up of pixels, and each pixel has a value. You will typically find raster data on topographic maps, satellite images, and aerial surveys. Raster data is vital for meteorology, disaster management, and industries where analyzing risk is essential.

  2. This is an interesting science that is applicable in various fields. Interestingly, any variable that can be spatially located can be stored in the system. GIS can convert existing digital information that may not yet be in map form into forms that it can recognize and use. This is definitely the science of the future.
