A farmers market is where you can meet your neighbors, share stories, and get fresh produce. Farmers’ markets were originally started in Europe and quickly spread across North America. Today, there are over 10,000 active farmers’ markets in the United States and many more worldwide. Some of the largest farmers’ markets in the US include New York City’s Union Square Greenmarket, Chicago’s Lincoln Park Farmer’s Market, Boston’s South End Community Farm, and San Francisco’s Ferry Building Marketplace. There are also smaller farmer’s markets like those in my neighborhood in Brooklyn, N.Y.
What do I eat, and how do I like it?
I’m not sure if I’ve ever eaten seasonal ingredients before eating at a local restaurant. But I am confident eating seasonal ingredients sold at a Certified Farmers Market by our farmers. My family went to dinner at a the Torrance Farmers Market at Wilson Park. We were seated at an outside table near the vendors selling freshly cooked chicken, vegetable skews, corn, and more. As we enjoyed the music and the entertainment, my parents ordered each a glass of freshly squeezed juice. Then came our appetizers. A salad, breadsticks, cheese, and dessert. All of them were made with seasonal ingredients. First, there was the salad. There were fresh greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, olives, radishes, artichokes, and feta cheese. Next, the breadsticks. These were fresh baked daily using local flour. And then came the entrées. My mom chose the chicken fricassée, and my dad went with the beef tenderloin. Both dishes were served with seasonal vegetables. My mom also got a side of roasted fingerling potatoes. After all of that came dessert. My favorite was the chocolate cake. It was moist and sweet. It tasted great!
Personally, the seasonal ingredients tasted sweeter, with a Pow flavor, and I am always looking for new ones to try out. I also enjoy experimenting with different recipes. My flavors eating seasonings are made from all-natural ingredients and come in many varieties. For example, my flavors are gluten-free, vegan-friendly, dairy-free, soy-free, sugar-free, nut-free, egg-free, and GMO-free.
